Larry had a business conference to attend in Bethesda, MD, just outside of Washington DC. The first day was on November 4th, so the Disneyland birthday free day had to be forfeited! Mary Anne flew in on Thursday evening the 5th so we could have a short vacation site-seeing the District. The Metro Subway station was only a half block from the hotel. So we managed Washington by rail and on foot. Our days were 8 to 10 hours long, so we put out quite a bit of walking! We met up with our good friends & family Bill & Donna for a much needed catch-up talk session and great time. We managed to get through all of the family happenings, work, aches & pains, good times and much more over dinner at the Capitol Hill Brewery by Union Station. It was great for all four of us!

On Saturday we walked all of the monuments … much more than we had really anticipated. But once on a roll we decided to just go for it! We rode the Metro to the National Mall to begin our day. So the first stop was the Washington Monument. As it was the weekend prior to Veterans Day, many Vets were at all of the Monuments, especially the World War Two Memorial. How inspiring! The stories being told by all were moving; the gratitude being given to each was awesome.

Over to the Lincoln Memorial … up the steps and around all, even the view to Arlington. History!
The Viet Nam Memorial Wall: Larry found a classmate, one of the first to lose his life in this war. Bill was our high school star football player and Student Council President. His death within the year from graduation hit us all hard. It was an unexpected reaction to see someone you knew for years on that wall.
Pictures are worth a thousand words, so be sure to open the complete album to see our entire trip: Smithsonian, FDR Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, Korean War Memorial, National Mall, Arlington Cemetery, The White House, Fords Theater, The Capitol, etc.
