Saturday rolled around for a full day of adventure on July 3rd. To start our day and the weekend, Sandra prepared a full English breakfast for us which we enjoyed tremendously on our favorite patio overlooking the back lawn and gardens. We had fried cherry tomatoes from the garden, English bacon (not that "streaky" American bacon), sausages, toast (with all types of toppings), eggs (from granddaughter Zoe's chickens), choice of juice, and coffee. What a meal!

Then we were off to the Dunsford Show run by the Dunsford Community Primary School PTA to raise funds to support their school. Jane's children (Sandra and Ray's youngest grandchildren), Zoe and Sam participated in many events. Zoe has her pride-and-joy "Bubbles" a Dartmore pony from the moores of Dartmore. He's wonderful and and Zoe loves him to death. She participated in the jump course. Her dad Andy ran ahead of them and Bubbles would follow with Zoe's direction. Sometimes it looked as if Andy might win a prize (sense of humor!!!)Zoe, Bubbles & Sam

Sam was determined to make a Combine for the arts & crafts section and not a tractor. He did an excellent job and came in First-In-Show for his creation.

One of the villages that we stopped and looked around in was Moretonhampstead. Again just a beautiful little village with wonderful old buildings and lots of flowers.

Our next stop was the Clapper Bridge in Postbridge. This was built in the late 18th century and still survives today. There are three granite slabs weighing 6 1/2 to 8 tons each set on top of stone piers. How this was ever done throughout England is amazing with no modern tools to lift that granite.

We then traveled up by Dartmore Prison. This whole area supports the Price of Wales, Prince Charles. The moorelands are beautiful throughout the entire countryside. This area has the Dutchy Hotel where "The Hounds of The Baskervilles" was written. The museum has a Sherlock Holmes maniquin. We had a delightful time driving through the moores ... where Zoe's pony came from.

Our day ended up at Kath's in the Village of Kennford. We had a good chat session and then headed out to The Ley Arms for a wonderful dinner treat from Kath. Sandra & Ray's eldest granddaughter just arrived back from a Swiss hiking trip and joined us for dinner. Jess, 20 years old, is in college and finished the semester. It was a great to have her join us. The only one we didn't get to see was Oliver ... high school graduate and partying! Can't blame him ... we'll have to go back to meet him!
