We took our holiday to Florida and a visit with the Schuhs flying to Orlando on October 3rd. We had a good flight on Virgin America Airlines with the new traveling style of updated cabin niceities. Fred had the afternoon off so we were able to get some great time with him before he had to hit the road on Tuesday and return to his trucking haul. We had planned to travel to Savannah for a couple of days to see the city and its charm. Fred booked a fabulous room for us at the Savannah Country Inn and Suites. Tuesday the 4th we took off midmorning to drive to Savannah. It is a lovely drive that Pam, Mary Anne, and Larry got to enjoy the countryside landscape and good conversation. About four hours later we arrived at the Country Inn.

The Inn had the old Savannah furniture that is so Southern and reminded us of the plantation time period. It was really lovely and a great location to boot. It was time to start exploring. We walked down to the river through several of the streets of center Savannah.
There are beautiful old trees with the southern hanging moss that enchant the city
The City is peppered with over twenty "block" parks with sculptures in most of them. The parks are great relaxation places and add a lot of charm to the city.

Some of the streets are made into outdoor shopping malls to stroll through and visit the stores and restaurants. The beautiful flower wagons caught our eyes.

At the Savannah River, there are all types of shops and stores to explore. The old-time look certainly exists here!

We had a delightful dinner on Riverwalk at the Shrimp Company Restaurant. Oh so tasty Coconut Shrimp! We believe we chose the right restaurant with all of the choices available to us!
After dinner we continued our journey through the city and located Paula Deen's "The Lady & Sons" Restaurant. We browsed the gift store for awhile and found out that we could make reservations for lunch or dinner on the day of the meal. We decided to return the next morning to make our dinner reservations.
The Lady & Sons Restaurant
From The Lady & Sons Gift Store - we found out the meaning of SLUTS in Savannah ... Southern Ladies Under Tremendous Stress!
And wouldn't you know it, just a couple of blocks away is the Velvet Elvis Lounge!
Returning to the Country Inn & Suites for the night, we all got a good night's sleep. We had a great comlimentary breakfast at the Inn then started our walking tour of Savannah for the day. There is just so much beauty in the parks, trees, and buildings of this historical city.
Beautiful Savannah
And all of Savannah is not Old Time Southern nostalgia. We saw this "fixed" Pay To Park sign that a very creative resident had altered with white out ... we all had a great laugh!
For lunch, we had to go to Pour Larry's just because it was named Pour Larry's!!! And it was great!
Our Reservation for dinner at Paula Deen's The Lady & Sons was at 6PM. We arrived with hungry anticipations ... we were not disappointed!

Pam ordered a Chicken Pot Pie. Did she ever get her wildest expecations. The Pot Pie is cooked in a bowl and served with a Puff-Pastry Lattice top. We discovered that it could be taken off for better eating control. It was a fabulous dinnere!
Larry had a scrumptious Seared Scallop Dinner
And Mary Anne celebrated her birthday dinner with Paula's famous Crab Cakes; Mary Anne had found them on the computer menu when searching at home when we had planned the trip and was anticipating for weeks. There was no disappointment!
What a way to end of Savannah experience! We had a wonderful time and enjoyed it all. Many, many thanks to Pam & Fred for planning this excursion .. such a great sister and brother-in-law! On Thursday we had a liesurely breakfast at the Inn before starting our car ride to Orlando. See all of the pictures at Our Photo Albums and then additional pictures at this link also!
