The first year with Ruby has really flown by. On November 2nd the families gathered to celebrate Ruby's first year and remember many fond memories. Carrie requested a "retro" 4-tier Birthday cake to be similar to her's that was made. She chose Red, Pink, and White for the layers and Papaw went to work to make the cake. No heavy decorations, just simple with some balloons! So a Ruby cake for little Ruby Alice Kim!
Ruby didn't know what to make of all of the fuss, but went along with it all!
Dad, Mom & Ruby
As tradition rules, Ruby gets the top layer to herself to dig into. She wasn't much into the whole thing, but got to make a mini-mess!
Plenty of gifts from the family. Ruby received a Ruby from her Halmoni Kay with the complete history written out as a keepsake. Kay's father (Ruby's Great Grandfather) had this Ruby in a tie pin and was the only valuable possesion he was able to keep in Korea. He was going to put it in a necklace for Kay, but passed away before he was able to do so. Kay at around 11 years old inherited the Ruby and held on to it. She was always planning to get a necklace made for her first grand-daughter when the day came. Ed did not know this story. And much to Kay's surprise, Ed & Carrie announced that they were going to name their daughter Ruby. Very touching and reinforces all beliefs in that a higher being is looking out over us all.
The house was full with (Grandma) Halmoni Kay and Wonil, (Grandpa) Harabuji Paul, Grandma & Papaw Facey, Uncle Eric, Auntie Shirley, cousins Kendall, Jordan, Mikayla, Ethan, Ella and Evan. It always gives Papaw a chance to hold his two most recents, Evan & Ruby!
