With the reunions over and the kids on their way back to California, we took a trip up to Mackinac Island between the Upper and Lower Peninsulas of Michigan. We had never been there in all of the years living so close. The island is a fun place to visit with Lake Huron on one side and Lake Michigan on the other. There are no automobiles allowed on the island reverting to horses, carriages, bicycles and walking to get around. There is a lot of history and some very interesting things to see. We stayed in St. Ignace taking the ferry over to the island the next day. Our ferry passed under the five-mile long Mackinac Bridge which we drove across to St. Ignace. Beautiful views of the bridge from the lakes! While up there, we took full advantage of the great lake fish for our meals.
The island is known for their Lilacs, so June and July would be a beautiful time to visit. One of the guest houses is the Lilac House which has several shades of lilac on everything from the house to the benches, to the horse head eyes on the hitching posts, to the flower containers and more!
The Stewart House City Museum is filled with wonderful displays and stories.
Wish we could find this set for our house!
Historic Ft. Mackinac ...
Mackinac Island also has a Summer Residence for the Governor of Michigan ... what a lucky Government Official!
We took the leisure walk of the scenic route to the Arch Rock.
We just enjoyed walking around and taking in all of the beauty and the homes on the island.
And Mackinac Island is world famous for it's Mackinac Island Fudge
As usual, there are too many pictures to show on this entry, so click on this link to enjoy all of the Mackinac photos!
