We had a great day exploring some more of the 100 Things To Do In Los Angeles Before You Die on this holiday. We drove up to LA and statred at #13 of the book, Wacko, aka The Soap Plant. It really is a great novelty shop that has the edge of being a sort of pop culture museum. It's huge and a lot of fun to explore ... don't pass up this one in your own adventures!
Less than 3 miles away is #54, The Echo Park Time Travel Mart. We were looking forward in indulging in our inner Doc Brown here at The Time Travel Mart. Unfortunately as it was the Independance Day, the Mart was closed for the day. Well, at least we know where it is and will surely return for the inside adventure of the mart that we could only see from the outside!
It was now approaching lunch time for us, so we chose to go to Roscoe's House of Chicken 'n Waffles, #49 in the book. We were close to Hollywood, so we went to the original as listed which is on Gower Street in Hollywood. There was a line waiting, even on a holiday. It wasn't bad as we got our table in about 20 minutes. This is one of those places that we have always wanted to go to in our 35 plus years in California and just have never ventured out to go to. Why did it take us so long? We really enjoyed! Mary Anne had chicken with rice and beans with cornbread; Larry naturally felt complelled to have the original Fried Chicken Breast with Waffle combo and simply had to get the legendary Mac 'n Cheese side as both were suggested in the book write-up and on the sign at the front door! Do not miss this original while in LA!!!
Our last stop of the afternoon was on W. Silver Lake Boulevard and Shadowlawn Avenue to see #25, The Chandelier Tree. It is truely a spectacular site. We took some photos and vowed to return some evening and have dinner at the nearby Cliff's Edge Restaurant as noted in the book's write-up and stop by to see The Chandelier Tree when all of the chandeliers are lit to get the full enjoyment.
