2015 - May 25th - Del Valle Park Veterans Memorial Plaza

Memorial Day 2015 was very special this year. Our Lakewood Del Valle Park has been going under reconstruction with a new Veterans Memorial Plaza incorporated. This has always been our "Airplane" Park since we moved to Lakewood. The plane was old and getting rusty. It was sent out for refurbishment to be re-erected as the cornerstone of the park. There was a campaign to donate a brick in honor or remembrance of someone who had served in the Military. We wanted to honor Mary Anne's Dad, for if not for him, we would not be in California and Lakewood. The night-time dedication was lovely. The Plaza looks like an old aircraft carrier deck with the plane taking off. The blue runway lights can be activated by pushing a button similar to those at a cross walk. The plane has lights that come on at night as well. There is also a Memorial Wall with those from Lakewood who died in service.
