With Eric's family in St. George Utah and Carrie's family and us in Lakewood, it seems that a good compromise is meeting in Las Vegas! Jordan picked out the venues with the help of her folks to celebrate turning 18 in Las Vegas (well Henderson and North Las Vegas!). Ed had previously scheduled a Toyota Highlander Hybrid SUV for the weekend so we were fortunate to be driven to Vegas in this amazing car and left the driving to Ed. We had so much room in the three seats and Ruby loves the "way back" seat for her.
We stayed at The Marriott Courtyard in Henderson which was lovely. We had 4PM reservations for dinner at Nora's Italian Cuisine on West Flamingo Boulevard not too far away. It was a great restaurant with fantastic food. Everyone in our family loves Italian Cuisine!!! No one was disappointed! It was worth the drive to Vegas to eat here!

The fabulous meal was ended with a special tiramisu cake slice from Nora's for Jordan and a Reese's Pieces and Reese's Peanut Butter Cup with crumbled Oreo chocolate cake brought in by Mom and Dad for Jordan and the rest of us. Yummy!!!
After a couple of hours of eating, relaxing and having conversations, we said "Arrivederci" to Nora's.
Our evening adventure was going out to Craig Ranch Regional Park in North Las Vegas to see the China Light's Chinese Lantern Festival. These hundreds of larger-than-life, fully-illuminated, lanterns are spectacular. There are many more pictures in the photo album at the end of this blog entry as the camera just kept snapping all of these beautiful lanterns. We entered under the Chinese Lantern Festival arch.

Our first encounter was under the dragon canopy where lanterns were lined-up for each of the twelve Animals of the Chinese Zodiac. Mikayla (Year of the Horse) and Ella (Year of the Pig) poised for a picture with their year's animal lantern.

Flower lanterns were abundant by themselves and with the displays

And photo opportunities were available at every turn .. Jordan the Birthday Girl with Papaw and Grandma
The colors were spectacular and we all had a great time exploring all of the lantern displays.
Sunday morning took us all to The Cracker Barrel Restaurant for breakfast before we headed home. Everyone knows that if there is one in the area, Grandma will suggest going there for breakfast! Again, we weren't disappointed and had a great meal!
Then it was off for home for all of us ... Lakewood and St. George!
On our way home in Yermo, in the middle of the desert, is the new Eddie World. On our Christmas trip it was not yet open, but now it is. We stopped in to see what all is offered. It's a huge candy store as you can tell by the outside water tower which beacons you to come in. From Pizza, Poke, Natural fresh-made sandwiches and salads, all is offered at Eddie World! They also have the largest selection of candy in California they say. Add to that Eddie World homemade Ice Cream and Carmel Corn there is plenty of guilt available if you're interested. It was a great stop.
Ed and Carrie were getting a real kick out of Eddie World having Poke, as they literally are in the middle of the desert and Poke is a raw fish salad served as an appetizer in Hawaiian cuisine. But then take a glace at the sign at the Poke bar where it is touted "Our fish is 2 hours fresher than Las Vegas." Well, I guess you can't argue around that!!!
But most importantly, don't forget the row after row of any kind of candy that you desire!!!
It was a marvelous weekend and we will always remember celebrating Jordan's 18th Birthday. For all the pictures taken, visit this blog section photo album link by clicking here.
