2018 - July 18th - LA Zoo with Ruby

On July 18th we took Ruby to the LA Zoo. Our last visit was in July 2015 with Ruby, Evan & Ella. It's always a fun day with lots to do and see. We had a roaring good time!!!
Our first stop is always at the seal pools to watch from under and above the water. Stopped by the alligator enclosure to see our toothy friend …. It's always a pleasure to be met by the beautiful LA Zoo Flamingos!
After looking trough the reptile house and all of the lizards, snakes and other varmints, we visited the outdoor enclosures filled with all types of tortoise and turtles. On our way exploring, Ruby found Kevin from the movie Up. Even though he/she is a Himalayan Monal Pheasant, in the movie he's a Snipe!!!

The LA Zoo has a great Gorilla community with beautiful living spaces for all.
One of Grandma's favorites is the giraffes which is always a must. They are also conveniently located across the walkway from the zoo restaurant that we always seem to end up for lunch. In that same area are the zebras. And as Ruby says, we see Lions and Tigers and Bears, oh my! The Tigers were inside a wooden "house" for shade that allowed us to see them but too shady to take a picture to memorialize the sighting! We also enjoyed seeing the Hippos who were pretty active on our visit. The elephant statues outside of their area are always colorful and great to see. We saw one Asian elephant that decided to come into view by the waterfall of his "land". For a diversion, we stopped at the kids play area of the zoo for about a half hour and Ruby played on a lot of the playground fixtures and also sat on the elephant at seal statues.
The zoo puts on a great outdoor bird show in the bird amphitheater. It was thrilling to watch as the various birds soared through the air above us and did other tricks as well. Much more is always seen than we show, but this was a marvelous day with Ruby at the LA Zoo.
