2018 - December 25th - Christmas Celebrations

Our Christmas 2018 spanned a few weeks. Going into the season we visited Disneyland in the afternoon and evening to see the holiday decorations and lights. The park is always so pretty and brings in the Christmas Spirit. Walt and Mickey surrounded with Yellowish-White Poinsettias in front of the Holiday version of Sleeping Beauty's Castle Ice laden Sleeping Beauty Castle It's A Small World --- Holiday Style! Disneyland Main Street Disneyland Town Square Main Street Christmas Tree And over at California Adventures the decorations and lights were also abundant.

Ruby's after school Show Stoppers group had a few performances during the season that we were able to see her dance and sing at various venues.
Carrie, Ed and Ruby did some family Southern California holiday exploring seeing this site with all of the lights:
Ed took on a holiday challenge inspired by the TV Show "nailed It" and made this beautiful Christmas Cake. Yes, he "nailed it"!
After many years of want, lust and desire, Ed and Carrie bought their Christmas silver aluminum tree this year! Ruby left a sweet note for Santa next to the tree on Christmas Eve. We understand that Ruby woke up around 5:30 Christmas morning but checked her clock and stayed in bed until almost 6:30 as her parents had instructed her the night before. They could hear her moving around so knew she was awake. We drove over to their house arriving a little before 6:30 to watch Christmas presents being opened.
Santa came through with Ruby's own Chromebook computer!!!
The last surprise gift was telling Ruby that her wish was coming true with the five of us spending Christmas Day at Disneyland . She opened her Minnie Ears from Papaw and Grandma and knew it was true!
After eating breakfast, going home to clean up a little and change clothes, off to Disneyland we went. We were in the park by 9 to start our wonderful day. We took a family picture in front of the Main Street Town Center Christmas Tree as we entered. Ruby and Papaw rode Dumbo high in the sky! It's A Small World Holiday Edition

Tea Cups for The Kims Snacks … Corn Dogs for these two One of their favorites, Nightmare Before Christmas at The Haunted Mansion
We had reservations for lunch at 3:30 at the fabulous Blue Bayou Restaurant overlooking the waters of Pirates of The Caribbean The food was outstanding and the service wonderful. A dinner much different than we have had for the previous 44 years at our home! Change is good and enjoyable. Ruby had the changing colorful ice cube in her drink … I was able to capture purple, red and blue from all of the colors it flashes through. Ruby loved it … a different experience and one that went home with her to use for many years to come.
We enjoyed the park strolling through all of the lands, riding many attractions and snacking along the way. For the most part of the day we didn't take pictures but just enjoyed Christmas Day at Disneyland. Night-time fell and the streets and attractions lit-up in holiday style. The queen of the park, Sleeping Beauty's Castle is always spectacular with the multitude of hanging icicles and snow covered roofs.
To finish the day, we had perfect spots on Main Street to watch the Christmas Fireworks Spectacular and the projections on the castle and also the storefronts of Main Street. The ending finale is beautiful with the music accompaniment throughout the show followed with the snow coming down on us as we watched. By the end around 10 PM Ruby's energy had left the building and we decided to call it a day after a fun and spectacular 12 hours or so celebrating Christmas Day at Disneyland.

On the way to the car in the parking structure: We took the 26th to rest-up from our big Disneyland day before driving to St. George for our celebration with Eric, Shirley and the kids on the 27th. The drive is always enjoyable going to Utah. We arrive around 5PM their time. Evan and the other kids were anxious to have Christmas with us, so the presents all were placed under the tree and any we began!

Christmas money from Uncle Ed, Auntie Carrie & Ruby Evan liked his Marvel Tee!
Ethan, Ella and Mikayla opened their traditional yearly ornament gift.
Some new clothes for Jordan and Ethan!
We did Christmas dinner on Saturday. As Eric had roasted the traditional Goose for the family on Christmas Day, we decided o bring Cornish Game Hens for everyone and have them for this "second Christmas dinner". Grandma busied herself for a good part of the day doing her cooking specialties with dressing preparation and other food goodies. The twelve hens were baked to perfection! The tables were set with the Facey Disney Christmas dinnerware and accessories. It all looked brilliant!

For dessert we feasted on wonderful fresh fruit that was sent by Mary Anne's sister Pam from Florida for the family to share and enjoy. It not only was scrumptious but also looked spectacular!
During our stay we went to the movies to see Mary Poppins Returns, ate out some and had our much anticipated breakfast at The Cracker Barrel Restaurant, and site-saw some of the places in St. George and beyond. In the evenings we were able to go to St. George Town Square Historic District and walk among the decorated trees and displays. The city puts lights on every branch of the trees in Town Square. It really is a sight to behold!

We also were able to go to the Red Hills Desert Garden in the evening to see all of the cactus and other plants lit in holiday lights. What a fantastic sight to see!

The following week, Eric's family all came over for a long weekend as Shirley had been hired to take pictures at a friends daughter's QuinceaƱera. While they were here as something different and which we had never done before, we had a traditional sweet bread of The Three Kings Day. Three Kings Bread, known as Rosca de Reyes, is a sweet bread baked for Three Kings Day. It is decorated to resemble a crown with candied dried fruit for jewels. Traditionally a small porcelain figurine that represents the infant Jesus is baked into the bread. Randomly, Ruby was the one who selected the piece containing the little baby Jesus.
So that's how we spent our holidays with all of the changes from the way we had done for forty-four years previously. We'll see what 2019 will bring … new adventures or old traditions? Who knows? Both are fun and enjoyable! We're up for either!!! Our complete photo album can be reached by clicking this link.
