After our glorious two days in Saint Augustine, it was time on Friday morning to drive down the Atlantic Coast of Florida to visit Valerie in Fort Pierce. We wanted to take the leisurely route next to the ocean and go through the beach cities. Fred drove us down the Florida A1A so that we could do that! Shortly after leaving Saint Augustine we passed Angel's Diner, touted as the oldest diner in Florida. With our love of diners we wish we had known this existed on our route as we would have stopped in Palatka to have breakfast there. Mary Anne took a snapshot of the diner as we passed. Maybe sometime when we are once again visiting in Orlando in the future we will make a day trip to see something up that way and have lunch at Angel's Diner! Just another place to add to our bucket-list wish-list!
We hit the Florida A1A driving along the scenic and beautiful views of the Atlantic. We saw high-rise hotels, beaches, small towns and lots of spectacular Florida coastlines. Out of St. Augustine we passed through Crescent Beach, Flagler Beach, Datona Beach and into Ponce Inlet.

After passing through Daytona Beach, Florida A1A takes us to Ponce Inlet where it ends. We weren't expecting that, but it was well worth the drive. We explored Ponce Inlet where we discovered a Veteran's Memorial and the beautiful Ponce Inlet Lighthouse. We walked the grounds and really enjoyed the stop!

We then back-tracked up the A1A to the cut-off to US1 to continue our drive to Fort Pierce and Valerie's house! Val had a evening charity gala to attend with her beau Timmie which we knew, so arrived there about an hour prior to Val's departure for the evening. Mom and Aunt Mary Anne were called upon for their expert advice to which dress Val was going to wear. She looks gorgeogus in anything, so it was pretty mute … but in all reality, probably not for Val …. lol! After she was on her way, Fred and Pam took us to one of their favorite restaurants in Vero Beach for dinner. Back at Val's we got in a few games of Euchre before calling it a day. In the morning we went to breakfast at The Cracker Barrel where we had a great time talking and enjoying the down-home cooking meal.

We left Saturday afternoon to travel to Miramar, down by Miami, to visit with John and Ron and go out to dinner. It's hard to believe that we met over 50 years ago while in the Navy. John has always been a good friend, best man in our wedding, and godfather to Carrie. This is only the second time we have been to their Florida home. It's always great to see both John and Ron and catch-up on more than Facebook posts. We all went out to a great buffet dinner. Time just passed too quickly before we departed after dinner to get to our Doral-Miami hotel for the night.
