2021 - June 25th - Los Angeles Zoo with Ruby

This week .... the Los Angles Zoo! Ruby finished school until late August when it starts up again for the new school year and next week starts her Junior Guards at Huntington Beach. So the opportunity was there to have a Papaw and Grandma day with Ruby combined with our weekly fun outing! Simply delightful!

We saw so many animals that these are a few of the wonderful ones we captured in photos! Greeting us in their habitat are the jab-snapping crocodiles. We always know that Peter Pan avoids this area of the zoo!
The zoo also has a beautiful small rose garden that is always here to brighten the day! Adjacent to the garden is this lovely lion statue. The zoo does a wonderful job of mixing flowers, plants and statuaries throughout the zoo.
Approaching the Meerkat habitat, as usual there was one standing on his hind legs looking as if on sentry duty. Often they sniff the winds for predators or perhaps he is just sunbathing!
And who can resist the beauty of Flamingos? So many, so eloquent, so beautiful!

Our next stop was the "creepy" reptile house! Ruby and Papaw love this giant chameleon that welcomes all into the home of snakes, lizards, frogs, spiders, turtles and more!

Ruby and those striking Zebras!
The Gorilla complex is always exciting. We watched as a couple of the "big" guys played with each other, chasing around and throwing handfuls of dirt at each other!

Grandma's favorites ... the Giraffes!
The Great Apes of the Forest --- Chimpanzees!

Then onward to the Orangutans which the sign tells us that they are patient problem solvers! Who knew?
This Peacock decided to show off right before out eyes!

The Elephant inhabitant was enlarged several years ago to make it more comfortable for the animals and more like their natural habitat. They are treated well by the LA Zoo. A trip to the zoo isn't a trip without seeing these magnificent animals!

Forgot this animal's name!!!
The zoo has a large Rain Forest garden to walk through and enjoy. It is so peaceful, beautiful and relaxing.
Beautiful Owls, Parrot and another displaying Peacock! Finishing up our day were the gigantic tortoises and the cutie-putootie Hippopotamus!
