After a magnificent touring of Rome, on Friday afternoon March 29th, we boarded the Sun Princess Cruise Ship for our trip around The Mediterranean Sea. For Saturday and Sunday, our first two days, we were at sea. We got to know the ship and have fun without thinking about shore excursions or anything besides just relaxing! On the way back to Rome we would be making stops in Gibraltar of the UK, Cartegena Spain, Palma on the Isle of Mallorca Spain, Barcellona Spain, Marseille France, Genoa Italy, La Spezia (Pisa) Italy and return to Rome!
The Sun Princess, the largest ship in the fleet, began its maiden journey of this inaugural year by sailing the Mediterranean Sea on February 28th, 2024. Our cruise was within this first month of the ship's life! The ship has a guest capacity of 4,300 with a crew of 1,600! There are 21 decks and a unique Glass Dome.

There was a model of the Sun Princess onboard in one of the lounge areas that we took a few pictures of. This model really shows the massiveness of the ship. Our balcony suite was room 11107. Circled is our room on the picture below!
We were happy to board the Sun Princess and begin our adventure!
The Glass Dome room has an indoor-outdoor pool which turns into an entertainment venue. The Dome will roll open to an outdoor theater. I have read that in the future there will be a Cirque du Soleil type show presented here. We went into this room and looked around but unfortunately on this cruise, the room was not being utilized for anything and was closed for the entire cruise.

In the center of the ship is a three-story Piazza-style-construction performing space. The Piazza spans three stories, forming an iconic architectural feature offering all onboard an outward looking suspended space with comfortable seating and areas to enjoy the ocean views in every direction. An LED screen in the center of the Piazza can be moved and configured to deliver live entertainment programming.
The ship has several dining rooms to choose. As well, there are food areas for sandwiches, pizza, burgers, ice cream, coffee, sweets, cookies and more .... plus unlimited liquor and drink bars, both casual and sit-down. Add to this lounge areas, pools, fitness centers and activity areas, the ship is packed with all types of alternatives.

There are spectacular ocean views from many of the dining areas too!

The ship is full high-tech! We were all issued unique Princess Medallions which unlocked and opened our staterooms, charged any purchases, allowed exiting and entering from/to shore leave, and any other needs aboard the ship.
Our Deluxe Balcony Stateroom was on the 11th deck, room 11107. We were forward and starboard, as far up as you get until the six deluxe suites. The room was spacious and great!

Waiting for us upon our room arrival were gifted Chocolate Covered Strawberries for our 50th Anniversary from our Princess Travel Consultant, Tasheca Wise. So nice and also so delicious!!!
We really just enjoyed our food and took minimal pictures, but this shows our indulgencies ... I asked for double scallops and no vegies and that's exactly what I got and what I enjoy!
And being Easter, Mary Anne really wanted an Easter ham dinner, and that's what she had!
The desserts were absolutely scrumptious. Can someone live on desserts alone .... I might be willing to try! Hahaha!
To finish off the cruise, the Champagne Fountain filled the room. This was the set-up before moving it to the center of the Atrium and adding more tiers, but I didn't snap a picture of the fountain in full-flow!
One of our perks was up to two each per day of a free specialty desserts. These were Ice Cream Sundays to beat all! These desserts are a slate of new gelato-based premium desserts adorned with rich and decadent pastry, candy, and sauce. I choose to believe someone at Princess overheard my declaration that “it’s impossible for a dessert to be too sweet” and decided to give it the old college try. Mine this day was The Godfather with a fudge brownie, vanilla gelato, chocolate sauce, candies and more!
There were so many great things to photograph but this gives a pretty fair sampling of our enjoyable cruise. It was relaxing, fun and beautiful.
