2026 - May 2nd - Jordan's Purdue Global Graduation plus Indiana stops: President Benjamin Harrison Site, Budges Ice Cream and the Steer-In Diner

On April 30th, Carrie, Mary Anne and I flew to Indianapolis to attend Jordan's Purdue Global University Graduation in West Lafayette where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree on Saturday May 2nd. All of the family came to celebrate and be at the ceremony. Mary, her dad, mom and sister, John-G, Cheri and Emily drove up from Louisville, Kentucky; from Orlando, Florida - Kendall and Miki drove up to be there; from Santa Clara, Utah, arriving on various flights were Eric, Shirley, Ethan, Taelor, Ella and Evan; then from Lakewood, California, Larry, Mary Anne and Carrie. We all so enjoyed being there to celebrate this great accomplishment!

The family went to the West Lafayette Cheddar's Seafood Restaurant for dinner. We had three booths where we could all see and converse, but not conducive to a family picture! The food was great and the company was excellent! Great times!

Friday morning, Carrie had found a breakfast joint from Diners, Drive-In's, and Dives. In 1960, the restaurant was opened as "Laughner's Steer In". Over the years the place has been sold and the name slightly changed by each but has always been known to the locals and visitors as the “Steer In". Today there are several of the original recipes still being served and enjoyed, including the signature burger Twin Steer, Cole Slaw and Cream Pie. The food is delicious and the portions very large!!!! Thank you Carrie for finding this joint!!!!

On Friday while in Indianapolis, Carrie, Mary Anne and I visited the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site. It's always fun to see some of the local spots while road-tripping! Benjamin Harrison was the only president of the United States elected from Indiana. This home and property is an educational and historical service seeking to promote patriotism and citizenship through artfully exhibiting the Victorian time period as Harrison and his family might have experienced it.

Benjamin and Caroline Harrison built the home in 1874-1875. Benjamin lived in the home until he died in 1901, except for his U.S. Senate and presidential years. His family continued to live in the home until 1913. His second wife, Mary Lord Harrison, made the home a rental property until 1937, when she sold it to the Jordan Conservatory of Music with the understanding that the home and its artifacts would be forever preserved. The school used the home as a dormitory while maintaining certain rooms as presidential museum space.

Friday night after dinner, again Carrie out-did herself and found Budges Drive-In for some Frozen Custard. Budges is known as The Best Kept Secret in Lafayette since 1942! Great taste and love the nostalgia of the place keeping true to its roots!
