2018 - May 21st-26th - Utah: Jordan's High School Graduation, Mikayla's 16th Birthday, and our visit

Monday morning we took off for the drive to Utah to spend the week celebrating! With the time in Utah one hour ahead of us, we arrived around 5PM. It was a lovely drive with no problems. Tuesday, Ella and cousin Taelor had an end-of-the-year party at their school that we were all invited too. They had several dances that they performed for everyone with popcorn and Root Beer Floats for treats! We had a good time and enjoyed watching Ella and her schoolmates. Now with Auntie Debbie and Taelor staying with them for awhile, Taelor is in Ella's class too so we also got to see him have fun on the dance floor!
Mary Anne and Shirley also went to Dixie State University with Jordan for the graduation rehearsal. All of the St. George High Schools graduate at Dixie State University and all on the same day … so Wednesday is a big day on the campus! While Jordan rehearsed, Mary Anne and Shirley walked around the campus, got some exercise and saw some of the sights!
Jordan has chosen and has been accepted to attend Dixie State University … she'll be able to enjoy this campus every day! They did return in time to see some of the graduation practice.
Wednesday was graduation day at one in the afternoon. Good friends, Matt, Veronica, Ezra and Zoe Manzano, drove from the wee-hours of the morning from Murietta California to be at the graduation ceremony. There were about 320 graduating Seniors. They each got to walk through the giant "D" on the stage which is a great honor at Dixie High School. Auntie Debbie out-did herself with the Lai making... there was plenty of candy and plenty of the lai's!

Back home we celebrated with Bar-B-Que per Jordan's request. Lots of food, lots of fun!

Thursday was celebration day for Mikayla's 16th Birthday. She selected The Pizza Pie CafĂ© for dinner. They have a huge buffet selection of pizzas (including dessert pizzas), salad and pastas. No one left hungry! At home we had The Cheesecake Factory great cheesecake that we stopped in Las Vegas on our way over to pick up. Mikayla's gift from us was her Emerald Birthstone Heart Necklace, the same as her sisters received with their month's birthstones on their 16th birthday. While visiting last week, Jordan bought Mikayla her Hogwarts "House" pin from the Harry Potter store at Universal City Walk: so which was it … Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw?
The evening afforded a trip to the movies to see the first showing of "Solo - A Star Wars Movie" for the adults and "big" kids. Grandma and Papaw took the "youngers" and "middles" the next morning. The evening guys got a treat when a patron had even made R2D2 and BB8 on his 3-D printer and brought them to theater with him. He was kind enough to allow pictures before putting them in his car to leave.
The Manzano's spent a good portion of the day with us before heading out on the drive back to home to California. We really enjoyed having them with us. We all visited Kayenta Art Village which is a lovely place with lots to see. We saw many unique art pieces and enjoyed the grounds walking around. There was a great 3-D drawn sidewalk art that caught all of our eyes!

Carrie suggested eating lunch at the Iceberg Drive Inn that we had seen on our travels around St. George. We can always go for a great diner!!! It's so great to find these flash-back places as we travel!
We visited a section of Old Town St. George to see some of the historic buildings and the small but famous Thomas Judd's General Store (Mary Anne read about it in our California newspaper and told Eric & Shirley about it). Want an unusual and old-time soft drink? Chances are they have a bottle of it on their shelf. The ice cream was to die for and all enjoyed everything in the store and the entire atmosphere.
And across the street from Judds is the original 1911 Dixie High School which was replaced by Jordan's 2004 building in the new location. https://www.swignsweets.com/menu/ The days were filled with great stuff. The pools in the housing track got daily use by this crowd. Of course there was exploring on the Red Rocks and Turtle Mountain. We had snacks at Swig, the place that offers great oversize cookies, Dirty Sodas (like with a piece of coconut in it or another fruit), and Dirty Shots. Check it out at https://www.swignsweets.com/menu/!

We shopped a little at Jordan's Harmon's Family Grocery Store, the Neighborhood grocer! She was doing a great job at the cash register with great customer service too!!! On Saturday we visited a Farmer's Market which really is craft fair held weekly. There is no food here. The crafts are all locally done and great to look at. We enjoyed our visit and "window-less" window shopping!!!
We had a fabulous week filled with love and fun. We even got to see how Jordan cuts Evan's hair!! Those are his bangs held up in the air while the sides are cut! For a few more pictures in the album, click on this link.
