2018 - June 6th - A Day At California Adventures

With summer comes block-out days at The Disneyland Resort, so we decided in this last week of active pass admission that we would visit California Adventures Park. We had really covered all of Disneyland last month with Eric and the kids, so this was catch-up with all of the happenings at California Adventures. We love to stroll around, take in the people and their actions, see all of the magic by Disney, and even ride a few attractions. Paradise Pier is being converted to Pixar Pier with scheduled re-opening later this month. The landscape is changing on the iconic roller coaster and Ferris wheel. On the boardwalk, the ice cream hunt has been converted to the "Adorable Snowman Frosted Treats". Even though it was mid-morning before lunch, we each had the new Lemon-Vanilla Swirl cone. When at Disney, we believe in going outside the box!
We strolled towards Toy Story Midway Mania, the only ride open on the Pier with the remodel transformation happening. But shortly on our journey we were stopped and told that the ride would open at noon and we could go no further due to the construction hazard. We turned and started to walk back to the other parts of California Adventures. But only a short distance when we reached the bridge, a cast member said to follow him … Toy Story was opening! It was only 10:45 so we turned and followed and we were about the 9th or 10th to get on the ride! We passed California Screamin', that marvelous rollercoaster in California Adventures, which is getting a new look to become "The Incredicoaster" all tied into the Incredibles. The que will be in the Incredibles' house with a large arch to walk under to enter. I happy to report that my favorite most beautiful restrooms in the park have not be altered! Is that TMI??? With Pixar Fest happening now and the anticipation of Pixar Pier opening by the end of the month, the park is filled with various Pixar Movie characters and signs. These are just a couple examples of many:
Coco's Miguel and his dog Dante And all of the Emotions from Pixar's "Inside Out"
We even ran into Russell and Dug from "Up"
We also wanted to see everything in "A Bug's Life Land" as it will be converted soon to a land dedicated to the Marvel characters. We really hate to see this small area that is so great for toddles to young kids leave, but that's progress and keeping up with the times. While there, we jumped on Heimlich's Chew Chew Train and took the ride through the gigantic looking half eaten foods (which now that we are small bugs the food is the right proportion!). One of the great things about this ride is that there is "smell-o-vision" pumped into each of the foods as you pass or go through. That partially eaten Chocolate Chip Cookie certainly smelled better than it looked!
A trip to California Adventures is not complete without riding "Soarin' Around The World" taking us to all of those fabulous places accompanied by smell-o-vision"!Where else can you see all the wonders of the world and so many countries then land in Christmas decorated Disneyland in less than fifteen minutes? We stopped by The Walt Disney Blue Cellar to take a look at the Pixar Pier land model. Next time we are here at the park it will be complete and we'll see it in person! With "The Incredibles 2" due out in theaters in a couple of weeks, we stopped in at the Sunset Showcase Theater to watch the eight minute sneak preview. Can't wait to see the film!
There are many attractions that we did not ride but that we passed and enjoyed from our walk such as The Redwood Creek Challenge Trail. It really is a fantastic place to relax and hike around …. good exercise. Even without doing this challenge, we managed to walk close to five miles during our stay! A good place to relax and enjoy Disney is in The Animation Building lobby and see the big screens with the movie projections on many screens of various sizes of all the animated films and listen to the music and some dialog that accompanies them. It's a great place to cool off and relax!
I'm pretty sure that Ruby would be upset with us if we didn't ride "The Little Mermaid - Ariel's Undersea Adventure" ride. It was always her must go when at California Adventures. We always enjoy climbing into that shell and experiencing the adventure! Disney has become a leader in stage productions and the Frozen production here at California Adventures' Hyperion Theatre is no exception. It is a fabulous one hour show that keeps everyone entertained. Parts have changed since we previously saw it, but we can't tell you what those changes are as it is so good! Maybe some of the changes are adapting the Broadway stage production version, I don't know. A marvelous way to wrap up our day before shopping the stores on our way out. It was a wonderful day to be together and a wonderful day to take in the Magic of The Disneyland Resort!
