2021 - August 4th - Northridge Day Outing

We ventured up to The San Fernando Valley today. Our destination was the city of Northridge. Our first stop at Lake Balboa Anthony C. Beilenson Park is really in Encino but boarding Northridge. This lake in Los Angeles County is big enough to accommodate swan pedal boats, fishing, and kayaks. It is quickly recognizable as home to dozens of ducks and geese. There are jacaranda trees, cherry blossom trees and wisteria which would be lovely to see in bloom.

There are Swan Boats for couples and larger ones that accommodate families.

Ducks and geese frequent the lake area. The Duck Crossing signs are just adorable!

There are folks fishing and others kayaking, enjoying their day!
At one point in the lake there is a beautiful waterfall.
We walked a large portion of the lake. There are beautiful flowers, a scenic walking bridge, paved walking bike and walking paths and even bicycles and surrey covered bicycles for rent. A lovely park!

We went to Cal State Northridge to see the Botanic Gardens. Once there, the guard at the entrance booth told us that unfortunately the gardens remained closed due to Covid-19. Guess we'll have to try this on another trip!
We drove by Dearborn Park which was a nice community park with playgrounds and exercise areas with outdoor equipment. We decided not to get out and explore as it was 104 degrees now and we preferred the air-conditioned car! Lunch time at Brent's Deli! We have not been here for a long-long time. It was as tasty as ever. I enjoyed a hard salami on rye while Mary Anne loved her Cabbage soup and salad. Wish this deli were closer to us!
Another stop we had planned was The Museum of San Fernando Valley. Again, we were disappointed to find that it is closed due to Covid. From what I read on-line, it will be an interesting place to visit once it reopens. In 2020, during the pandemic, The Museum moved to Rancho Cordillera del Norte in Northridge. From the outside, the building looks fabulous!
The Northridge Fashion Center opened in 1971. It was severely damaged during the Northridge earthquake in 1994 but renovated extensively. We stopped by as we had not seen the renovations since the earthquake. A total remodel had just been completed of the Broadway store two months before the earthquake. I had gone out to see that completed remodel. The years have flown by!
