Wednesday was the day that the family arrived. Ed, Carrie and Ruby landed a little after 11AM. They picked up their rental van and then came to our hotel to pick us up. It was great to see them here in Honolulu! Carrie wanted to have lunch at the world-famous Royal Hawaiian Hotel.
The Royal Hawaiian opened in 1927 and is known as the "Pink Palace of the Pacific." Waikiki is an oasis of timeless luxury on this island of Oahu. Located steps away from the beautiful sands of Waikiki Beach, the oceanfront Mai Tai Bar and Grill is the ideal outdoor setting for enjoying the Waikiki scene while sipping on a favorite umbrella drink and savoring tasty cuisine. This 5-star experience is the crème de la crème which we took a little sampling of at the Mai Tai Bar and Grill.
Eric, Shirley and family's flight landed shortly after 12:30. They also had rented a passenger van so between the two vehicles all 14 of us could get around the island for the week of vacationing. We headed to Waialua on the North Shore where we had booked the houses of Owen's Retreat. At the complex, the White House has four bedrooms for Eric, Shirley and the kids. The Yellow House is a two bedroom which is booked for Ed, Carrie and Ruby. And the Pink House is a one bedroom that we occupied. It was lovely having this oasis for our family. The caretakers were in the Green House, separated from our houses, and they were there for any needs that we had. We were all together yet separate. We could not have asked for anything more!

We were literally 10 steps from the beach! There are public areas on each side of the property, but our beach seemed to be private for us. We loved being right on the beach. Never being a fan of "white noise", I learned here how soothing it can be. With the windows open all night, the ocean waves could be heard in such a mild and comforting tone ... just wonderful! We all played in the ocean and took advantage of "our beach" to take family pictures!
