May 11th and 12th were pretty full and these highlights show some of the thing that we did. We all went out to lunch with Carrie, Ed and Ruby to celebrate Mother's Day. Hof's Hut was the restaurant of choice. We had a marvelous time, meal and fellowship with each other. Afterward we had some traditional Mother's Day pictures taken in our front yard!
On Sunday we stuck close to home going over the very distinctive Cerritos Library. Before even entering the building, the outdoor fountain pool is a wonder to see! The rooms are gorgeous, and they have huge aquarium tanks with wonderful fish that you could just sit and observe for hours. The reading rooms are like being in a mansion. The children's section is so cute with many interactive things for the kids. I thought it was appropriate to take a picture at the children's entrance with the book "Little Women" with the girls!
The freeform glass hangings are so unusual.
Kids Corner
Then while in Cerritos, over to Heritage Park. The statue of Paul Revere greets all visitors. Ducks and turtles have great homes at this park! Lots of play-houses, stores and castles for the kids as well as the traditional playground swings, slides, jungle-gyms and more!
And our last stop was up the road about 6 miles to the City of Downey to visit the oldest McDonalds in the world. It was the 3rd McDonalds to be operated and Speedee still rules --- no Ronald McDonald (except in the museum!). This McDonalds has the original sign, building and arches! One of the original milkshake machines is in the museum with much more. It is still a working restaurant! A small museum has many artifacts of the company. It's an interesting place to visit. We all had lunch here too!
